Thanksgiving is a Time of Need at GPHC
Since the Greater Park Hill Emergency Food Pantry reopened eight months ago, we have served more than 435 Park Hill neighbors with a three-day supply of food. Family sizes have ranged from one to eight, 15 percent are 65 or older, and 32 percent are children under 18. We’ve provided the equivalent of 3,633 meals, or enough for three years’ worth of food for one of our average-sized families. Our Emergency Food Pantry is definitely needed in Park Hill, and we appreciate your donations that have enabled us to meet those needs weekly.
With Thanksgiving approaching, November is the busiest time of year for our Pantry. We already have more than 30 families signed up to receive a Thanksgiving food basket including a turkey with all the trimmings. We need your donations of all the usual Thanksgiving sides: boxes of stuffing, powdered mashed potatoes, canned sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie filling/condensed milk/pie shells, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn and other canned veggies. We also need frozen turkeys of various sizes for families up to 10 people, or gift cards to local grocery stores to allow us to buy turkeys to fulfill last-minute demand.
Please drop off your unexpired packaged and canned food and turkeys at the GPHC offices at 2823 Fairfax Street Mondays through Thursdays from 10am-2pm, on Monday, November 18 from 4-6:30pm, or by appointment. We have volunteers to prepare boxed meals, which we will be distributing November 20 -21 to anyone who can document Park Hill residency. We hope this year to serve two to three times as many people as we did in 2012, but we can’t do it without your support!
We are also conducting a coat drive for the second year in a row. Please drop off your CLEAN coats, jackets, sweaters, or gloves at the GPHC office. We are especially in need of children’s coats, and we will make sure it gets to a family in need. Thank you!
Lastly, if you would like to sponsor a family for holiday assistance including food and gifts at Christmastime, please contact me at 303-388-0918 or director@greaterparkhill.org. We can match you with a family needing assistance this holiday season.
We are deeply grateful for all of our members, volunteers, advertisers and neighbors for your support of GPHC’s efforts to provide for those in need in our community. Our clients truly appreciate your efforts. Happy Thanksgiving!
