Home Tour Heroes
Heather Shockey and Tracey MacDermott made the Home Tour and Street Fair an almost zero waste event. They collected 55 bags of trash from the sites (at right). From those 55 bags, they recycled 2 full carloads of cardboard, 3 large bags of paper, 6 large bags of plastic, 2 large bags of crushed aluminum, 1 small bag of glass and 4 large bags of plastic bags and shrink wrap. Locust Street neighbors volunteered their compost bins to hold 8 large bags. In the end, less than 20 gallons of garbage went to the landfill.
Ed Moore Florist and Greenhouse has been creating the bouquets for the Home Tour show homes since 1978. Owner Lydia Mary says that, as the longest running florist in Park Hill, she does it to support the neighborhood. They make an appointment with the homeowners before the tour and decide what the bouquets will look like and where they will be placed. 35 years later, while Ed Moore Florist donates to many causes, Mary says that she’s broken all of her philanthropy records at the Home Tour.
The combined efforts of Marc Applebaum, Applebaum Architects, and Mike Jacobsen, Frame of Mind, have culminated in framed custom renderings for every participant of the Home Tour for nearly 30 years. Applebaum draws the renderings by hand with soft pencil, while Jacobsen archivally preserves the renderings, then mattes and frames them beautifully.
We are so lucky to have such wonderful people in this community. Thank you to these and all the Home Tour Heroes!
