Name: Matthew P. Bradford
Occupation: I am currently the safety coordinator for a local construction company.
What do you love about Park Hill? I am a Denver native and I’ve lived in Park Hill since 1993. I have loved and celebrated the history of Park Hill, especially through the Civil Rights era. It pleases me that Martin Luther King Jr. visited and spoke at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in 1964. I have loved the ethnic and economic diversity in Park Hill as well, but it is transforming to be less and less diversified, unfortunately, in my subjective opinion. I love the historical architecture in Park Hill, I love the 1908 bungalow that I share with my wife, Melissa, and daughter, Chloe.
What addition or change would you like to see in Park Hill? I know that change is inevitable throughout Denver, especially with the economic boom in the last few years. The country and the world figured out our little secret that Denver is an awesome place to be. I would like to reasonably preserve the identity and culture of Park Hill, much like the folks who fought for the rights of anyone to live in Park Hill, regardless of skin color. I would like for Park Hill to keep its relative scale architecturally and not have McMansions and other architectural behemoths that have invaded many of Denver’s historical neighborhoods. I’ve always considered myself to be a steward of my historical home and for the neighborhood, I have made many friends here. I have extended family here in Park Hill as well.
What do you plan to focus on in the year ahead with GPHC? I plan to help keep up the pressure for traffic calming measures throughout Park Hill. I want to help ensure that development here is a good fit, and that Park Hill remains a special place. I will participate in the Denveright community involvement and the East Area Plan, as I’m anxious about the Denver planning department’s plans for Park Hill. I will be an active GPHC board member.
