Kids Eat Free
How to stretch your budget by taking advantage of this famous offer night after night
By Celeste Thurman Archer
There seem to be as many Three Week Kitchens – Baths in a Week (owned by Park Hill resident Debra Toney) signs popping up in yards as there are fall mum pots! Families are rendered kitchenless during these, or personally devised, remodels. When several neighbors shared their plans for how to manage a kitchen remodel on a family budget with small children, it seemed to be brilliance that couldn’t go untold. And it’s something you can take advantage of even if your kitchen works but you don’t want to!
Monday is burger night (at both there are wonderful vegetarian options as well):
Larkburger in Washington Park – 1 Free kid’s meal per adult purchase.
H Burger at 727 Colorado Boulevard – 1 Free kid’s meal per paying adult.
Tuesday is Italian night but save Friday for pizza:
Tony P’s at 777 E. 17th Avenue – 1 Free kid’s meal per paying adult. Wednesday is comfort food night:
IHOP in Stapleton (or any IHOP) Kids eat free with paying adult. Go for the “hump night” favorite breakfast for dinner comfort!
Applebee’s on Colorado offers kids 12 and under .99 meals with four kids per adult meal.
Thursday is surfer dude/ette night:
Wahoo’s Fish Taco in Northfield – Two free kids per adult meal for kids twelve and under.
Friday night is recovery night:
Friday nights are hard – it’s the night most restaurants pay their bills. So, a little research was necessary and it’s more a special treat. Go to Oblio’s at 22nd and Kearney.
Order a family pizza; then, while you’re waiting, mom and dad chill, hand the kids some quarters to play the games. Use your phone to check-in on Facebook. Show Suz, or whomever is on duty, that you checked in and a warm family size chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream will be delivered to your table for free. Be sure to arrive as early as you comfortably can, Friday nights fill up early.
Saturday is a full day with some errands made easy and fun activity at night:
Do your family shopping for the lunches you have to pack during the week at Sprouts. When you’re done, head across the street to Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs on Colfax. Show them your receipt. When you’ve just shopped at Sprouts, Steve’s gives a 15% discount. Be sure to ask for their punch card. For every ten dogs purchased, the eleventh is free. Show proof it’s your birthday and receive a free hotdog, small fry and twelve ounce soda.
Saturday night, make it a family date night:
Head to Annie’s on Colfax. It’s Trivia Night starting at eight o’clock. There isn’t a free option but the trivia menu might as well as be and there is family entertainment as well. Cheese Quesadillas are $2.99. Nachos to feed two are $4.99. Chips and salsa are $3.99. Order all three and a family of four to five can leave full and happy, maybe even the winners of fun trivia prizes.
Sunday is a day in the old country:
GB Fish and Chips at 5325 E. Colfax – 1 Free Kid’s meal per adult. On Tuesday’s, GB offers $1 tilapia all day. A family can order as many pieces of fish as desired, throw in an order or two of chips (fries) for $1.65 and you’ve got a great meal!
If you search the Internet for “Kids Eat Free Denver,” you might find even more that you like. These were geared to families in Park Hill who might have children activities in and around the area. Be sure to check out the GPHN events calendar, which includes the SCFD Free Days, which can be coupled with any of these super dining options for fantastic and cheap family dates.
Bon apetit, Park Hill!
