By Becky Corning
Librarian, Pauline Robinson Branch Library
It’s time to test your knowledge of Christmas literature.
1. Who gives Harry a well-intentioned but inappropriate Christmas gift in No Roses for Harry by Gene Zion?
2. Which narrator begins his book by explaining, “If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you’ll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like … but I don’t feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. … I’ll just tell you about this madman stuff that happened to me last Christmas just before I got pretty run-down and had to come out and take it easy”?
3. What is the name of Audrey Niffenegger’s bestseller in which Henry DeTamble time-travels to escape a vehicular accident that killed his mother on one Christmas Eve in the 1970s?
4. In the short story by O. Henry, Mr. James Dillingham Young sells his watch to buy his wife’s Christmas gift, an assortment of combs. What does his wife sell to buy a gift for him?
5. In Dr. Seuss’s classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! the Grinch dislikes many things about Christmas. But what is the one thing the Grinch hates most about the holiday?
6. Merry and Bright is the 2017 Christmas novel by what author? (Hint: The Hallmark Channel chose her Cedar Cove books for an original TV series.)
