Ed Martens and his dog, Bella, posed for me in front of Cherry Tomato. This was some time ago (note the beautiful morning glories on the trellis). Ed is on the right, with the shorter ears. He is the youngest sibling of my wife, Pam, and one of my favorite brothers-in-law. I asked him what fictional character he would like to be sitting next to him on the bus bench. He said Homer. No, not that Homer, not the one who wrote all those long, mythical tales. He meant Homer Simpson. Ed is a Simpson fanatic. He owns more than 100 Simpson items. And what would Ed say to Homer? “I would ask him if he’s met Donald Trump. He’s met all the other living presidents.”
