Nominations Needed for the Babbs Community Service Award
Nominations are now being accepted for the Babbs Community Service Award. Since 1980, the award has been honoring individuals who serve the Park Hill community. The award honors the legacy of former Park Hill United Methodist Pastor and founding member of the Park Hill Action Committee, Dr. J. Carlton Babbs.
Last year’s recipient was Lynn Smith, former owner of Kate’s at 35th, for her activism in the community and around healthy food, her work with the GPHC and her willingness to open her restaurant home for community events. Under her stewardship, the 1889 Victorian farmhouse received a historic designation in 2003.
Cast your vote for this year’s award recipient by filling out the nomination form below, picking up a form from the GPHC office at 2823 Fairfax, or sending an email to gphc@ecentral.com. Nominees must reside in Park Hill. Nominations must be submitted no later than Monday, September 24.
GPHC Board Elections
Every October, the members of the GPHC elect one-half of its Board of Governors. All dues-paying members of the GPHC are eligible to serve on the Board. Individuals should nominate only themselves. If you are interested in serving on the GPHC Board, contact gphc@ecentral.com or 303-388-0918. Dues can be paid online, by mail or at the annual meeting. Next year’s officers and Executive Committee will be formed from those elected to the Board of Governors.
At the October 4 meeting, elections will be held for Representatives of Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 (Map available here). To represent a district, you must live within the boundaries of the district. There are also three of six At-Large seats, for which any member of the GPHC living within the neighborhood are eligible to run for.
