Delicious Autumn
Time To Snuggle Up With A Book Or Three
By Becky Corning
Librarian, Pauline Robinson Branch
Apple picking, hayrides, pumpkin drinks. Fall is in the air! With the leaves just beginning to change, it’s the perfect time to snuggle up with your favorite child and share some fall stories.
Following are a few favorite fall picture books:
It’s Fall! By Linda Glaser: This is the first in a four-book series celebrating the seasons and includes activities.
Mouse’s First Fall by Lauren Thompson: Beloved children’s character Mouse joins his friend Minka in exploring leaves of all colors, shapes and sizes.
Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson: Children can interact with this book by tapping, shaking and wiggling the pages to help a tree change through the seasons.
Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins by James Dean: Who better to sing the pumpkin song than the mellow blue cat with the colorful sneakers?
In the Middle of Fall by Kevin Henkes, illustrated by Laura Dronzek: The pair who brought us Birds and When Spring Comes have come up with another charming story about the sights, smells and tastes of fall.
Fall Mixed Up by Bob Raczka and Chad Cameron: Kids can find the mistakes in the pictures and sentences like “Every Septober, Every Octember, Fall fills my senses with scenes to remember.”
Awesome Autumn by Bruce Goldstone: This book will amaze children with factual information about fall, along with beautiful color photographs.
