Buried In Books, Not Snowbanks
Winter of Reading Launches Feb. 1
By Becky Corning, Librarian, Pauline Robinson Branch Library
Reading programs are not just for kids – at Denver Public Libraries, adults can earn a prize for reading, too.
Winter of Reading runs Feb. 1 to March 31 and is limited to adults 17 and older. To participate, come in to one of the branches, any service desk at Central Library, or the bookmobile, and pick up a brochure. You can also download a brochure at www.denverlibrary.org/winterofreading. Complete three out of eight activities listed on the brochure, and win a Winter of Reading mug. Sweet and simple.
Winter of Reading activities are all book- or library-related. For example, you could listen to some local music on our Volume web site, https://volumedenver.org/wor. You could sign up for a personalized reading list. Or, you could stop by the Western History/Genealogy Department at the Central Library downtown and find your house on an old Denver map. The activities are designed to be fun and help adults learn about library services.
This year, we’ll be kicking off Winter of Reading with a trivia party. Join us at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Jagged Mountain Brewery, 1139 20th Street. Questions will be provided by “Information Masters” (a.k.a. librarians) and hosted by DPL’s Bearded Tallman (a.k.a. Joe Mills). For every beer purchased during the trivia kickoff party, $1 will go to DPL.
Customers have asked us for a reading program for adults. They must get jealous when they see the kids with all their summer reading prizes.
