Keep In Mind Our Seniors
65-Plus Have Different Needs
By Rebecca R. Born, Executive Director, GPHC, Inc.
This month, I’d like to focus on a very large and vulnerable segment of our population: our seniors. At the GPHC Food Pantry well over one third of our clients are 65 and older. They have different wants, needs and limitations than our younger clients. With that in mind, I’d like you to consider donating the following:
• Easy open products (rather than those that need a can opener)
• Lower sodium canned or bagged vegetables
• Lower sodium potted meat
• Sardines
• Supplemental meals like Ensure or Boost
• Adult Incontinence products- both briefs/diaper style and pads, in a variety of sizes
• Baby Wipes
• Powder
• Rinseless Shampoo and bodywash
We are so very grateful that many of you think of us when you lose a family member, friend or neighbor. We are honored to receive the items from their household that they left behind. Be sure that we put them to good use. There are some things that we cannot accept, though, and may be more appropriate for disposal or a different organization.
Here are items we can accept:
• Open household cleaners
• Open kitchen items like foil or wax paper and plastic baggies
• Open laundry detergent
• Open packs of tissue or toilet paper
• Open incontinence products
• Loose cleaning sponges
• Open pet food, treats, or litter
Here are items we cannot accept:
• Opened medication
• Durable medical devices
• Any opened or used item designed for single use
• Opened or expired foods
All donations can be dropped off at the GPHC office at 2823 Fairfax St. The office is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feel free to call if you have any questions; the number is (303) 388-0918.
Thank you as always for your support of your neighborhood pantry.
