Birdland
The Bald Eagle has been the symbol of the United States of America since 1782. Hunting by humans and habitat destruction threatened the bald eagle population through the 1960s, and efforts have been made to restore the populations over the past three decades. Bald eagles can live up to 40 years in the wild. This beauty was spotted at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge north of Park Hill, one of more than 50 bald eagles that have congregated there in the past month. A group of eagles has many collective nouns, including an aerie, a convocation, a jubilee, a soar and a tower. Photo by Park Hill resident Mark Silverstein
