A Bouquet Of Thanks
By Barbara Armendariz
Garden Walk Committee Co-Chair
The June 18 Garden Walk was another fun Park Hill event. It took the time and effort of many people who, beyond their normal busy lives, spent hours, days and months working together to make this year’s garden tour another success.
How do we thank all the folks who have worked so hard to plan and organize this annual event? We have a Garden Party, naturally, and and invite all involved. This year’s “After Party” drew about 100 people.
Gardeners, sponsors, artists, volunteers, Greater Park Hill Community staff and committee members enjoyed an evening together to relax and celebrate another wonderful Garden Walk. The party is our way of thanking all the people involved that make this event a success.
This year’s party was hosted by committee member Bob Moses, who for the second year offered his lovely garden for us all to gather and have a fun evening. Bob’s garden was on the tour last year.
Gardening is a lot of work, and most gardeners do it for their own pleasure, their love of digging in the dirt and seeing the splendid outcome. Initially it can be rather anxiety provoking for gardeners to open up their private spaces for visitors to wander through. In the end however, I have only heard happy comments, about how much fun it was to share their knowledge and experience of gardening with many appreciative people.
Our party brings together many Park Hill folks who are involved in several different activities in Park Hill. Many sponsors live and work in the neighborhood, as do the Greater Park Hill Board of Governors and the Garden Walk committee members. Our volunteers live in Park Hill, as well as many other neighborhoods in Denver. Some return year after year. The event brings people together from a variety of interests, work lives, ages and neighborhoods.
We especially want to thank the great cooks, servers and bottle washers who provided a splendid meal for all to enjoy. And gratitude to the many sponsors and committee members who provided their special dishes, to the grill cookers of the night Lynn Maedel and Pat Quinn, to Bill Hanna for his bartending skills and to Cindy Hanna for her help with organization and kitchen detail.
Our very special thanks also to the following GPHC supporters who generously donated food and beverages for this party:
• Fairfax Wine and Spirits
• Grape Expectations
• Continental Sausage
• The Abby Tavern
• GB Fish and Chips
• Cake Crumbs Bakery
