On Valentine’s Day, East sophomore sensation Langston Reynolds led the East High Boys basketball team to a 86-76 home win over Thomas Jefferson High.
The 6’4” Reynolds, whom the Denver Post calls potentially “the best sophomore in the state,” registered 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for the Angels. The performance included a spectacular alley-oop and a number of thunderous dunks, repeatedly bringing the raucous Denver East home crowd to its feet.
After the game, Reynolds described to the Greater Park Hill News his experience playing for East’s legendary nine-time state champion coach, Rudy Carey. “He’s tough. He is going to be on you 24-7, but that it what it is going to be like at the next level, so you have to adjust to it.”
In addition to the boys basketball win, that day East High celebrated the tenth anniversary of the East Girls Basketball’s 2010 Colorado state championship. Parents and players from that squad were honored at mid-court before the East girls’ varsity dismantled its Thomas Jefferson counterpart by the score of 82-22.
