Sustainable Gardens Kicks Off On May 21 – We Need Your Gardening Extras!
By Rebecca Born
Executive Director, GPHC, Inc.
Greater Park Hill Community, Inc. is gearing up for our Sustainable Gardens kickoff event. It will be on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Our main goals is to help 50 families who would like to start to produce edible gardens, but don’t know how or don’t have the access to resources to succeed.
If you know of a family/individual who would like to participate, let them know to come on out the morning of May 21. We’ll be providing plants and seeds and a very easy to read garden plot plan, but we need more.
We are looking for donations of:
• Trowels or small shovels
• Tomato cages
• Landscape timbers or any non-treated dimensional lumber (preferably 4 foot)
• Pot/Containers (Big enough to grow vegetables for those who don’t have a garden space)
• Tomato/Pepper/Chive plants
• Mustard/Collard Seeds
• Compost
• Good dirt
• And anything else you have that might help someone get started!
You can drop these off to GPHC at 2823 Fairfax St. Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Email me at director@greaterparkhill.org to arrange pickup outside of those hours, or for more info.
For those who just can’t wait until the kickoff, on May 12 at 6 p.m. we will be making seed paper for our participants. Come on over to the GPHC office at 2823 Fairfax St. so you can learn all about that, and help out your neighbors.
