Summer In Full Bloom
Times For Parties, Parades, Fresh Food Stands
We are still riding the high from GPHC’s amazing 50th anniversary party on June 1. So many of you came out to celebrate with us and we are so grateful. The weather was beautiful, the beer was cold, the pizza was hot, and the vibes were all good. We wouldn’t exist without our members, donors, and supporters so truly, thank you for coming and showing your support.
Though the party fun is fleeting, we are fortunate to be left with two incredible, tangible memories. Deb Rosenbaum, Park Hill resident and artist, created a beautiful mural in our community room at 2823 Fairfax St. depicting notable moments on the timeline of our first 50 years in service to Park Hill. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see it, I invite you to stop by the office and take a look. It tells our story well and is a constant reminder of why we are here and what we need to continue to do for this community.
Additionally, we collaborated with the city’s “I Am Denver” storytelling lab to create a video compilation of stories from some Park Hill residents. You’re likely to recognize at least one person in the video; all of the participants have been residing here for decades, if not generations. The video is available to view on our website, at greaterparkhill.org/about-us/i-am-denver/.
And now, get your blankets, chairs, hats, and sunscreen ready. The 10th Annual Park Hill 4th of July Parade starts at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. All are invited to attend the parade. Participants will once again march along 23rd Avenue, from Dexter to Kearney, on Independence Day.
The parade will feature more than 50 groups, including floats, marching bands, costumed characters, classic cars and more. If you aren’t marching, pull up a chair and an umbrella and cheer participants along the route. Help us make the 10th annual parade the biggest and best yet. Visit parkhillparade.org for all the details.
Our Free Farm Stand, on the sidewalk in front of our Fairfax Street office, continues on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Farm Stand is completely free and open to everyone. If you would like to donate excess food from your garden, please bring it on over.
Our Emergency Food Pantry is very much in need of canned fruits, toilet paper, and paper towels. You can drop off donations at our office (2823 Fairfax St.), at Bikes Together (2825 Fairfax St.), Park Hill Branch of Denver Public Library (4705 Montview Blvd.), and Cake Crumbs (2216 Kearney St.) all during regular business hours.
There is no community and board meeting in July. Attend the parade and then enjoy your evening!
To the donors and volunteers who give their time, talent, and treasure – thank you. We are grateful to be part of a community that comes together to care for those who need it most.
