Summer Adventures
Get Ready For A Rollercoaster Of Fun
By Leslie Williams
Pauline Robinson Branch Library
We are looking forward to serving you this summer in new and exciting ways. I sat down with our Summer of Learning Coordinator, Yanira Duarte, and she gave me the scoop.
Summer of Adventure
The Summer of Adventure is Back. Youth, ages 0-18, are encouraged to participate in activities in three categories: Read, Make and Explore. Here’s what you do:
• Visit any of our 26 locations
• Ask to sign up for Summer of Adventure; the first day to register is May 25
• Receive a brochure (kids receive a prize just for signing up!)
• Complete 15 activities
• First day to receive the completion prize is June 25
• Last day to register is Aug. 13 and last day to pick up completion prize is Aug. 21
The Journey
We know that being in front of the computer screen is tiresome and that summertime can be fun, but long. We’ve curated a list of activities for all ages around movement, outdoors, virtual and home so that you can discover new things to do this spring and summer. Visit denverlibraryadventures.org/journey to find fun activities that you can do or share with others.
Self Directed Programs
We will not gather together for in-person programming, but we will still offer engaging opportunities for our youth and community. From June to August, young people will receive kits that contain activities to do at home. The kits will also allow kids to participate in virtual programs to extend their learning. Kits are first-come, first-serve at your nearest branch location. Furthermore, we have these three self directed outdoor programs for youth.
Scavenger Hunt Challenge: If you enjoy exploring new places and games with clues, you’ll want to participate in our Scavenger Hunt Challenge. Complete any of the challenges and pick up a limited edition coin. For participating branch locations and instructions, visit denverlibraryadventures.org
Compass Course Challenge: Find your own way and learn orienteering. You will be provided a compass that you can keep and instructions to help you find each checkpoint. To learn how to use a compass and for more information on participating branch locations, visit denverlibraryadventures.org
Sidewalk Course: Do you like to skip, jump, run, and zoom around? Stop by your local branch location to complete a sidewalk course that will get you moving, learning and having fun!
Maker Challenge
Do you make crafts, cook, garden and like to share photos of it on social media? Share your photos with us. The Maker Challenge allows you to share your creativity with other library users across the city. Every time you upload a new project you are automatically entered into a drawing for gift cards to local businesses. Visit denverlibraryadventures.org/makerchallenge for more information and instructions on how to upload your stuff.
Well, there it is. We will have our annual Summer of Adventure programming, we will be open for browsing and checking out materials, and we are always open at denverlibrary.org.
