Park Hill Events Update
Get Ready For Good Times
Editor’s Note: Every year the Greater Park Hill Community sponsors several events in the neighborhood. Planning for the June Garden Walk, 4th of July Parade and September Home Tour & Street Fair are already well underway – and organizers are already looking for volunteers and participants. So mark your calendars, check out these status updates, and get ready for a good time.
Spring Means Blooms a Plenty For the June Garden Walk
Save the Date! Saturday, June 13 is the 2015 Park Hill Garden Walk!
Another year, another spring and again this year there will be 10 beautiful gardens for you to visit on the annual Park Hill Garden Walk. Saturday June 13, from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. you can wander through and enjoy these inspiring neighborhood gardens. Walk under shade trees, along beautifully designed pathways and beds of colorful spring and early summer flowers, shrubs and veggies. Last year more than 750 tickets were sold, raising $10,000 for the Great Park Hill Community.
Early ticket sales for this year’s event begin May 30. They are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors age 65-plus. You can purchase early tickets through Pay Pal online at www.parkhillgardenwalk.org. Early tickets can also be purchased with cash only at the Park Hill Library 4705 E. Montview Blvd, at Cake Crumbs Bakery 2216 Kearney Ave. and at Spinelli’s Market, 4621 E. 23rd Ave.
On the day of the walk all ticket prices will be $15 and can be purchased online at www.parkhillgardenwalk.org. Day-of tickets can also be purchased at the Art Garage at 6100 E. 23rd Ave., with credit cards or cash. Cash-only locations on the day of the walk will be Spinelli’s Market and the Park Hill Library.
Registration Open for the Park Hill 4th of July Parade
Registration is open for the sixth annual Park Hill 4th of July Parade! Our plucky little neighborhood favorite has quickly become the largest Independence Day party in Denver, attracting entries from around the Metro area.
Interested groups and individuals can register on the parade website at ParkHillParade.org. All groups are welcome and participation is FREE! Neighborhood and block group floats, creative community organizations and music entries are particularly encouraged to participate, with an emphasis on fun, festivity and patriotic spirit.
And, true to the nature of Park Hill and Denver … have fun with your entries! The more enthusiasm our participants show – and the more creative they get with their entries – the more fun the parade is to watch. And with more than 5,000 people expected to turn up for the event this year, there will be an outpouring of community support. Get ideas by checking out photos from previous parades at Facebook.com/ParkHillParade.
This year’s event will once again begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4 and will go along 23rd Ave. from Dexter St. to Krameria St.
The parade runs 100 percent on the support of sponsors and donations. Any business interested in sponsoring or donating should contact Justin Bresler, parade founder and organizer, at parkhillparade@gmail.com. Sponsorships start at $100. Anyone with questions about the parade can also contact Justin at 303-918-6517.
The parade is a Greater Park Hill Community, Inc. event and we would like to offer thanks to the 2015 sponsors we have signed up already: Quebec Square Family Dentistry, Cake Crumbs Bakery, Dee Ciancio Realty, Denver Welcome Home, Paddington Station Preschool, Dardano’s School of Gymnastics and KS 107.5 Radio Station.
Planning Underway for the September Home Tour & Street Fair
The date of the Home Tour & Street Fair isn’t decided until the NFL schedule is released in April. Why? Well, the event draws even more participants when the Broncos are not playing, or have a “bye” week.
Yet organizers for Park Hill’s biggest fundraiser are already hard at work, in search of great homes for this year’s Home Tour & Street Fair, as well as volunteers to help plan and coordinate the multitude of activities. Please contact Nina Kuhl at kuhlnina@yahoo.com for Home Tour inquiries. Contact Kate Sultan krsultan@comcast.net or Lynn Maedel lynnmaedel@cacmle.org for Street Fair inquiries.
Last year’s Home Tour & Street Fair raised $48,000, and drew 4,000 people. A hundred vendors participated in the Street Fair. There were five homes plus the historic Smiley School Campus on last year’s tour. This year, organizer Kuhl says the working committee has already secured four homeowners willing to participate, and they are hoping to have three additional homes in this year’s home tour.
