New Year, New Look, New Website
By Cara DeGette, Editor, GPHN
January is a month for renewed focus. In that spirit, we are delighted to unveil a new look for the Greater Park Hill News, as well as an updated website for Greater Park Hill Community, Inc.
The idea behind the redesigns was quite simple: the newspaper and the organizational website were seriously in need of an updated look. In addition, the executive committee of GPHC, as well as board members and staff, wanted to incorporate the registered neighborhood organization’s updated priorities onto the website, at greaterparkhill.org.
Kudos to GPHC public information chair Melissa Davis, who also serves as the newspaper manager, for quarterbacking the process. GPHC Executive Director Rebecca Born provided critical input as well. Our web developer Tom Benway provided terrific design options and ideas, and was a delight to work with. Take a look at the website – again, it’s greaterparkhill.org – and let us know what you think.
The award-winning Greater Park Hill News is distributed to 14,000 homes and businesses in and around Park Hill. Since GPHN began publishing way back in 1961, the newspaper has gone through numerous design facelifts. Our latest update comes to you courtesy of our incredibly talented art director Tommy Kubitsky, with input from the rest of the newspaper team – including advertising representative Leif Cedar, also an accomplished graphic designer.
The intent was not to make any radical changes, but to update the visual look of the newspaper and to make it more consistent with the GPHC brand. As always, your feedback is welcome.
Over the past year, we have covered a multitude of ongoing issues that are critical to Park Hill – from efforts to pursue local historical designation for a portion of Park Hill, to rezoning controversies, social justice issues, the so-called Platte to Park Hill stormwater project, the proposed Bardenay distillery and restaurant on Kearney, and the massive redevelopment plans for at 28th and Fairfax. Lynn Kalinauskas has provided critical coverage of education issues that readers can’t find anywhere else. Other regular and occasional contributors – a very short list includes Dave Felice, Jack Farrar, Mark Silverstein, Brian Hyde, Neil Funsch, Brenda Morrison and Jeffrey Roberts – have provided news, commentary, and photo features that can’t be found elsewhere.
We are committed to publishing stories designed to keep Park Hillians updated about other newsworthy events and plain interesting characters doing interesting things in our diverse neighborhood.

Last month, we published a list of businesses that advertised in the newspaper in 2016. The next time you patronize one of these businesses, please let them know you appreciate their advertising choice – it means the world to us.
The following are additional writing, advertising and distribution resources for the Greater Park Hill News – your neighborhood newspaper. Thanks for reading!
