New Books To Spice Up Your Holiday Season
By Becky Corning, Librarian, Pauline Robinson Branch
Scents of ginger, pine and peppermint fill the air. Twinkling lights beckon around every street corner. Along with seasonal delights like these, don’t forget the power of a great book to put you in a holiday frame of mind.
Holiday classics include A Christmas Carol, The Gift of the Magi, and The Little Match Girl. And, while your at is, check out one or more new holiday books on the shelves. Here is a sampling of what’s new:
For little kids
The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s Christmas 123, by Eric Carle, is a new board book about one of the most celebrated insects in history.
For kids (and kids at heart)
When Santa Was a Baby by Linda Bailey and Genevieve Godbout. Santa’s parents delight in their little boy’s oddities, like his first booming “Ho, Ho, Ho!” instead of typical baby gurgles, and the way he loves to stand in front of the refrigerator.
Jingle Bells, a Magical Cut-Paper Edition by James Lord Pierpont, and illustrated by Niroot Puttapipat. A sleigh ride across a snowy landscape concludes with a stunning cutout scene.
For adults
Half Yard Christmas: Easy Sewing Projects Using Left-Over Pieces of Fabric, by Debbie Shore. Use fabric scraps to make items like a hanging heart, candle pots, advent calendar or a Christmas stocking.
Dashing Through the Snow, by Debbie Macomber. Many readers eagerly await Macomber’s annual Christmas novel. In Dashing Through the Snow, Ashley Davison, a graduate student from California, reluctantly agrees to share a holiday road trip with a former army intelligence officer.
Also, don’t forget to check our calendar for upcoming seasonal events at the library!
