The East girls made a quick task of it, leading 15-0 after the first quarter and cantering to an eventual 44-26 victory. Senior Dezmonea Antwine led the East girls with 12 points on 6 of 20 shooting.
The boys’ game was much closer. With the Angels’ star senior Kwame Marble hobbled by a foot injury early in the first quarter, Thomas Jefferson took a surprising 41-32 lead into halftime. But with East’s Marble cheering from the sideline for the entire second half, East came back strong, with senior Caulin Swain’s 26 points leading the East boys to a 75-60 victory.
