Happy To See You Again
Garden In A Box, Community Yard Sale, Garden Walk:
Welcome To Spring, And A Return To Normal
Spring is really here and the warmer weather brings so much hope and promise. We hope to also bring you a bit of joy with some safe, in-person programming.
This month we have the Garden in a Box Giveaway, which will be distributed to somewhere around 50 novice and low-income gardeners. We prepare and distribute kits with seedlings, seeds, and instructions, to help hopeful gardeners grow vegetables in a 4×4 plot. Typical offerings include tomatoes, peppers, cooking greens, lettuce, and flowers but what’s included in the kits largely depends on the plants we are able to secure through donations and sponsorship.
The Garden in a Box distribution will take place on Saturday, May 15 and we kindly request that participants pre-register to ensure we have enough supplies. Visit greaterparkhill.org/food-programs/garden-in-a-box for more details.
Closely following will be the Park Hill Yard Sale, slated for Saturday, May 22. This spring is the perfect time to purge from all that winter, pandemic hunkering. Why not do it with your neighbors?
If you want to hold a yard sale on this date, simply hop on greaterparkhill.org/events/yard-sale and fill out our brief registration form. We’ll add you to the official map and offer information to help you get the most out of your sale. And of course, one person’s trash is another’s treasure so visit that same link to view the shopping map and go snag some smoking deals!
In June we are excited for the return of the Park Hill Garden Walk. Sunday, June 13 is the big day and we’ll be featuring eight beautiful gardens that we all missed out on last year. The entire event takes place outside and we’ll be metering the entrance to each garden to ensure safe distancing.
Tickets are on sale now online and in retail outlets. See page 14 and visit parkhillgardenwalk.org for details.
The Emergency Food Pantry at 2823 Fairfax St. continues to be open to clients on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., providing a three-day supply of food to neighbors in need. We accept food donations at our office on Mondays and Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Non-perishables can also be dropped off at Cake Crumbs, at 2216 Kearney St. during their business hours.

GPHC’s operations are supported heavily by volunteers and almost entirely by donors. In 2021, I’m sharing a quote each month to express our gratitude for our donors and volunteers:
“Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.”
– Eleanor Roosevelt
