A group of seven Latin American students volunteered
in the Greater Park Hill Community garden and helped to clean up the public areas in July. Hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver, the students are participants in the Study of US Institutes on U.S. History and Government (SUSI), a five-week program for university student leaders who this summer traveled from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Panama. The goal is to deepen students’ understanding of U.S. culture and society, and to broaden their leadership abilities. Pictured in the photo are students Ana Diaz, Pedro Valdez, Daniel Barria, Luis Diego Calderon, Nixon Castellon, Monica Vargas and Astrid Fuentes, along with interpreter Ruth Rivera and program manager Stephanie Mami.
