Farm Stand Starts In June
Sharing The Bounties Of Our Gardens
The weather is warm, the flowers are in bloom, and it is time to get out and enjoy all that June brings! We are excited to be bringing back our Free Farm Stand starting Monday, June 3.
We partner with Denver Food Rescue volunteers, who pick up leftover food from City Park Esplanade Farmers’ Market (at East High School) on Sunday. They bicycle it over to Greater Park Hill Community offices at 2823 Fairfax St. to be distributed on Monday.
The farm stand, which is on the sidewalk in front of our office, is completely free and open to everyone. In addition, if you are a gardener and you would like to donate excess food to our stand, please bring it on over. Take some produce, give some produce – our goal is to keep all of this fresh, nutritious food out of the landfill and get it into bellies.
The farm stand will operate every Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June through October.
Did you know GPHC is turning 50 this year? We are so excited to be hosting the Greater Park “Over the Hill” 50th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 1 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will include a block party on the 2800 block of Fairfax Street with food, beverages, and activities for all ages, as well as a historical showcase, silent auction, and more in our office located at 2823 Fairfax. Please come and celebrate with us!
The 19th Annual Park Hill Garden Walk on June 23 is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and promises to be a day full of inspiration and pure enjoyment.
This year you can expect to see creative repurposing of materials such as broken chairs, old pieces of ironwork, reclaimed wood, and stained glass, as well as unique raised beds in all shapes, sizes, and materials. In addition to six residential gardens, the incredible gardens at the Dahlia Campus for Health and Well-Being will also be featured. Advance tickets are $15. Seniors (age 65+) are $12. Children under 12 are free.
All the details about this year’s Garden Walk can be found on pages 14-15. And don’t forget to mark your calendar for the 10th Annual Park Hill 4th of July Parade at 1:30 p.m. on – you guessed it – the 4th of July. Check out parkhillparade.org for additional details. As always, please join us on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at 2823 Fairfax for our community and board meeting. This month’s meeting is Thursday, June 6.
We are adjusting to an exciting change as our Emergency Food Pantry has been moved into a different space within our offices and community room. New shelves, a new setup, and dedicated space mean an improved shopping experience for all of our clients and volunteers. Swing by and check it out!
We’d like to extend a thank you to Bikes Together, our newest non-perishable food donation drop-off partner. Located right next door, this will provide a new level of convenience for donors who find themselves at our office outside of normal business hours. We are currently in need of canned fruits, canned meats, nut butters, coffee, toilet paper, and paper towels. Now you can drop off donations at our office, Bikes Together (2825 Fairfax St., next door to us), the Park Hill Branch of Denver Public Library (4705 Montview Blvd.), and Cake Crumbs (2216 Kearney St.) all during regular business hours.
To the donors and volunteers who give their time, talent, and treasure – thank you. We are grateful to be part of a community that comes together to care for those who need it most.
