Frida, Diego and Mexican Modernism
A highly anticipated exhibition featuring more than 150 artworks of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and their contemporaries arrives at the Denver Art Museum beginning Oct. 25, through Jan. 24. Tickets will go on sale to the public starting Oct. 12, and be sold in two blocks, with the second going on sale starting Monday, Nov. 23. The exhibition takes a closer look at the role that art, artists, indigenous culture and their supporters played in the emergence of national identity and creative spirit after the Mexican Revolution ended in 1920. The exhibition also highlights the importance of women artists during this period. Other featured artists include Lola Alvarez Bravo, Gunther Gerzso, María Izquierdo and Carlos Mérida. Tickets for adult members start at $20 and $26 for non-members and will be available at denverartmuseum.org.
Then And Now: Denver’s Black Experience
The Lowry Speaker Series returns with a panel discussion, Then and Now, an overview of Metro Denver’s African American history and African American experience. The moderated panel discussion features Charlene Porter, Judge Gary Jackson, Rene Gash, and Dr. George Junne. Porter, Gash and Judge Jackson are from multi-generational families that were born and raised in Denver. The panel discussion is Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Eisenhower Chapel, 293 Roslyn St., in Lowry. The event is free and open to the public but reservations are required. Denver Film Festival Goes Virtual
The 2020 edition of the Denver Film Festival will be available to film lovers across Colorado from Oct. 22 through Nov. 8. More than 100 titles will be available for virtual viewing, including local, national and international cinema, panel discussions, tributes, and achievement awards. This year’s Festival will also showcase Italian, UK/Ireland, Women+Film, CinemaQ, CineLatinx, and Colorado Spotlight, as well as new offerings of Colorado Dragon, Spotlight on Social Justice, and a virtual High School Day for high school students and educators across the state.
