Escape With A Good Book
Cozy Winter Nights Are Perfect For Page-Turning
By Tara Bannon Williamson
Park Hill Librarian
Do you need a little escape with a good book during the frosty months that are upon us? Join us for Winter of Reading. Now through Feb. 29, the adult reading challenge entails reading, and completing library-related activities for prizes.
Pick up a brochure at any Denver Public Library location to get started. Complete the challenge by completing any five activities. Then, bring back your brochure to any one of our 26 locations and you’ll be rewarded with the choice of a Winter of Reading mug, glass, or metal straw set – plus a chance at winning one of our 30 Tattered Cover Bookstore prize packs.
Some of the 12 activities include:
• Asking a friend for a book suggestion
• Reading a book aloud to a pet or consenting adult
• Flaunting your library longevity by getting a sticker for your library card
• Reading a poem published after 2012
• Trying out a new recipe from a cookbook
The Denver Public Library has long celebrated reading in the summer with children and teens and so we are happy to focus on adult reading this winter! Encouraging adults to read is crucial. Not as many adults take the time to read for pleasure as people might think. There is so much to be curious about in the world, and we are here to help you explore and try new things this winter, and beyond.
