Future Of The ‘Hood
Denver Planners have scheduled the last of five public workshops to discuss and collect input in its East Area Plan, which includes the southern portion of Greater Park Hill. The workshop is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5 at Ashley Elementary School, 1914 Syracuse St. The neighborhoods within the East Planning Area include the southern portion of Greater Park Hill, from 23rd Avenue south to Colfax, along with the Montclair, Hale, and East Colfax neighborhoods. The area is experiencing significant changes, including the development at 9th and Colorado (the former site of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center), as well as plans to add Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) along Colfax Avenue. Denver Women to Watch
March is National Women’s History Month and for 25 years, the League of Women Voters of Denver has honored women who have faced significant challenges in their lives, but have nevertheless made strides to fulfill their personal goals. On Sunday, March 24, The League of Women Voters will honor 15 women with inspiring stories of barriers faced and successes achieved. The ceremony and reception is from 2 to 4 p.m. at Montview Bouelvard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia St. It is free and open to the public, so come and be inspired.
Conversations About Guns
Unity on the Avenue Spiritual Center is sponsoring a series of community discussions in March that are designed to be non-political, spiritually minded conversations on the topic of gun responsibility and healing violence. The sessions are two hours each and scheduled for the following dates: Saturday, March 16, from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The sessions are at Unity on the Avenue, at the corner of 17th Avenue and Dahlia. Everyone is invited, and there is no charge to attend.
Good Enough To Drink
Downtown Aurora Visual Arts presents Edible, an exhibition packed full of nutrition for the mind and body. The exhibition, produced by DAVA Youth, includes arts-based approaches to healthy lifestyles, including photography, drawing, digital media, dance and indoor farming. Middle and high school students in DAVA’s Job Training in the Arts and Technology Program learned about nutrition and urban agriculture with Annie Toro Lopez and Don Lopez, founders of Seed to Savor Farm, Living Food for the Future. Students also visited the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center for inspiration. Guest artist Travis Vermilye will exhibit drawings alongside youth artists. The opening reception is Thursday, March 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. and runs through June 7. DAVA is at 1405 Florence St., one block south of Colfax in the Aurora Cultural Arts District. All of DAVA’s exhibitions are free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, or by appointment. For more information, email gallery@davarts.org.

Denver Workforce Services is offering several upcoming summer job and resource fairs to connect young adults ages 16-24 with summer jobs, featuring a wide range of hiring employers and job search resources. With Denver’s unemployment rate currently at 3.7 percent, summer job opportunities are shaping up to be more promising this year than ever for young people. The first job fair is Saturday, March 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center, 4890 Argonne Way. Another job fair in the area is Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Park Recreation Center, 9651 E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Attendees are encouraged to create a profile at ConnectingColorado.com prior to attending.
How Healthy Is Denver?
Abbie Steiner, an epidemiologist at Denver Public Health, will present the results of a recent survey on the health of Metro Denver’s youth on Monday, March 4. The event, sponsored by The League of Women Voters, begins at 5:30 p.m. at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia St. Rosemary Rochford and Elizabeth Carlton, leading scientists on environmental health, from the CU School of Public Health, will present data from a recent publication they helped to write. It discusses environmental changes and how they are affecting the health of Denver’s population and what rising climate temperatures might bring. The event is free and open to the public.
Calling All Artists
Denver Arts & Venues is accepting proposals for two large public art projects at the 47th and York Bike Pedestrian Bridge and Denver Health Outpatient Medical Center.
The 47th and York Bike Pedestrian Bridge is envisioned as an integrated project along the ramps and covered portion of the bridge, using sound, light or mixed media in a two- or three-dimensional format. The commission amount is $65,000. The newly constructed Denver Health Outpatient Medical Center artwork is expected to create a safe and welcoming environment. The commission amount is $175,000.

Park Hill Garden Walk Is June 23

Spring is right around the corner. Spring means flowers, and that also means it’s nearly time for the Park Hill Garden Walk. This year’s event is June 23 and will feature eight to 10 amazing gardens in the Greater Park Hill neighborhood.
Be prepared to be inspired as you casually stroll through these unique, private spaces. Advance tickets go on sale April 1 at parkhillgardenwalk.org. Cost is $15, seniors $12, Children under 12 are free.
The Park Hill Garden Walk committee is currently recruiting gardens for the 2019 event. The Park Hill Garden Walk committee is a group of volunteers working to raise funds to support the mission of GPHC Inc., a volunteer-based registered neighborhood organization that promotes the character and vibrancy of Park Hill through resources, information and advocacy, all while preserving the quality of life and the history of the neighborhood through community participation.
