Finian’s Rainbow at East High School
East High School Theatre Company presents Finian’s Rainbow, from Thursday, March 5 to Sunday, March 8. Written in 1947, Finian’s Rainbow is a charming, odd, huge musical dealing with magic, racism, bigotry, community togetherness, leprechauns looking for a recently purloined crock of gold and, as always, true love. Stirred into the mix are sharecroppers, bigoted senators, lovers and wishes being granted (regardless of the chaos those wishes can cause), and songs including “Old Devil Moon,” “How are things in Glocca Mora,” and “If this isn’t Love.” The East Theatre Company is pulling out all the stops on this production, with a fabulous set, a huge cast, crew and orchestra. Shows are at the East High School Auditorium. Tickets are $15 (purchased from East theatre students), $12 (student rate) $17.50 (online and at door). Ticket purchases: east.dpsk12.org or 720-423-8338.

Become An Urban Forester
The Park People and Denver Parks and Recreation have joined forces to offer Community Forester training, a series of workshops that prepare community members to become leaders in urban forestry in Denver. Courses provide both knowledge and skills training in tree biology, planting, pruning, identification and more. Over the past couple of years, the training program has become even more vital due to the introduction of Emerald Ash Borer to Colorado’s tree canopy. While not yet found in Denver, the non-native insect attacks ash trees, which make up 15 percent of Colorado’s urban tree coverage. This threat can be managed, and impacted trees can be treated or replaced by alternate varieties that are not susceptible to this hazard. Registration is open through March 19, and classes begin March 21. Visit www.TheParkPeople.org to register.
