August-Fest 2014 At Holly Square
August-Fest – traditionally a three-day event in Park Hill’s Holly Square – is relaunching this year as a one-day, family-oriented concert, bazaar, and resource fair. Impact Empowerment Group and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s Denver Days Initiative have teamed up to bring back the August-Fest 2014 celebration for August 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Holly Square. This event will include music, youth activities, food, resources, and, of course, fun. The Holly Area Redevelopment Project (HARP), The Hope Center, Hiawatha Davis Recreation Center, Mi Casa Innovation lab, Pauline Robinson Library, and Jack A. Vickers Boys and Girls Club, are also partnering in this community effort. Local businesses, community organizations and private donors are being recruited to help. Denver Days Job Fair Slated For Aug. 9
Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock’s second annual Denver Days neighborhood/community celebration is adding a job fair to help local employers and job seekers connect this year.
Denver Workforce Development is organizing the job fair for Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hiawatha Davis Recreation Center, at 3334 Holly St. The first 30 minutes of the job fair is reserved for veterans only, with all job-seekers welcome beginning at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served after the job fair, which concludes at noon. A Park Hill community celebration will follow. “The Denver Days job fair reinforces the outstanding efforts our workforce centers are making every day to help job seekers find gainful employment,” said Hancock. “We look forward to introducing residents to prospective employers and building stronger economies for households throughout the community.” Employers interested in participating in the job fair should contact Al O’Hara at 720-865-5596 or al.o’hara@denvergov.org. Lace Up The Sneakers
What does it mean to live in a walkable neighborhood? Have you ever thought about walking to work or to the store? Do you want to take public transit but are unsure how the bus system works? The Northeast Transportation Connections is introducing Community Walking Trips to residents of Park Hill, northwest Aurora, Stapleton and East Montclair. Trips will connect residents via walking to local areas of interest and riding public transit on the return journey of the trip. These trips will include small trainings on how to use public transit, we will discuss interests around the neighborhood and the best practices on walking safety. We will also make time for discussion on unique neighborhood history and we will address any questions or concerns residents have during our journey. The hope is that these community walking trips to everyday locations will heighten opportunities, interest and motivation to sustain on-foot and public transit travel for practical and recreational use. There is no charge, and the walks are open to everyone. Spots are limited so sign up early at StapletonTMA.org. Here is the schedule:
