Claudette Sweet Awarded for Community Service

Claudette Sweet, a 40-year resident of Park Hill, was presented with the Urban League of Metropolitan Denver’s Sebastian Owens Community Service Award for her lasting contribution’s to Denver’s African-American community this September. The award, named for the League’s first president, was presented to her and five others by current League president Landri Taylor. Sweet, a Mezzo-Soprano, has had a musical career spanning over six decades. She has sang in a multitude of capacities, from the Colorado Symphony to school events, community vigils and rallies – including a performance at the Columbine Community Vigil in the presence of President Clinton. Said her son David Sweet of his mother, “She has used her talents both on and off the stage to impart wisdom to others through activism and the art of music and storytelling.”
