Bursting At The Seams
Spring Has Sprung. Mark Your Calendars, Neighbors!
Spring has sprung and you may have noticed some changes here at Greater Park Hill, Inc. As the new Executive Director of the Registered Neighborhood Organization, I would first like to say, “Hello!”
I have served as a volunteer, event chair, and board member over the last five years and I look forward to serving the community in an even bigger way in my new role.
You may have also noticed that our office hours have changed. We will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This frees up our staff to get out in the community and to attend meetings and events. If you need to meet with me outside of office hours, please don’t hesitate to call or email and I am happy to set something up.
As we call it a wrap on our Earth Month campaign we are looking forward to the kick-off of our events season starting with the 7th Annual Park Hill Community Yard Sale on Saturday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Be sure to visit greaterparkhill.org/events/ to register your sale and to view the map so you can prepare to do some serious haggling.
On Saturday, May 18 we will host our 5th Annual Garden-in-a-Box Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. We are giving away seedlings and seeds that will fill a 4×4 garden to the first 50 participants who register. This program is geared toward novice and low-income gardeners in the neighborhood. Give us a call at 303-388-0918 to sign up.
Did you know GPHC is turning 50 this year?! We are so excited to be hosting the Greater Park “Over the Hill” 50th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 1 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will include a block party on the 2800 block of Fairfax with food, beverages, and activities for all ages, as well as a historical showcase, silent auction, and more in our office at 2823 Fairfax.
Don’t forget to also mark your calendars for the 19th Annual Park Hill Garden Walk on June 23 and the 10th Annual Park Hill 4th of July Parade (yes, it’s on July 4). You can find more information about all our upcoming events at greaterparkhill.org/events/.
Our food programs continue to thrive and provide for those in our community. Our Free Farm Stand resumes on Mondays from June through October and is open to everyone.
In April we were fortunate to have received three incredible food drive donations. The C70 project crew from Kiewit Meridiam Partners delivered two truckloads of food that will support the Weekend Food Program for months to come. Sue Mountain-Morgan’s annual “Food Fight” and Dank Dispensary’s food drive each added a truckload of food to our emergency pantry inventory. We also received a generous donation from a GoFundMe campaign set up by McAuliffe students Alannah Petitt, Ella Rannie, and Merritt Alwin.
Our programs rely on donations throughout the year. You can always find out what we need by visiting greaterparkhill.org/get-involved/donate/.
Donations of goods can be dropped off at our office during our (new) office hours. You can also donate non-perishable items at the Park Hill branch of Denver Public Library (4705 Montview Blvd.) or at Cake Crumbs (2216 Kearney St.) during their regular business hours.
To the donors and volunteers who give their time, talent, and treasure: thank you. We are grateful to be part of a community that comes together to care for those who need it most.
