Birdland: Hello, Chickadee
The Black-Capped Chickadee is bouncy and acrobatic, swooping in to grab a seed and calling out its distinctive “chickadee-dee-dee-dee.” A flock of chickadees is called a banditry, a nod to their masklike appearances complete with black caps and bibs, and white cheeks. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology notes this bird is “almost universally considered cute thanks to its oversized round head, tiny body, and curiosity about everything, including humans.” This Black-Capped Chickadee was photographed snagging a sunflower seed in Park Hill by Mark Silverstein.
