Birdland: Googly Eyes
Bare-eyed Pigeons are easily identified by the striking ring of bluish to reddish brown flesh around their eyes. These pigeons also have iridescent scaled neck patches and distinctive white wing patches, which are particularly noticeable in flight. They can be rather shy. You won’t find Bare-eyed Pigeons living in Park Hill. Their habitat is confined to the Caribbean coast of Colombia and Venezuela. They can also be spotted on several offshore islands, including Bonaire, in the Dutch Antilles, where this pair was photographed by Park Hill resident Mark Silverstein.
