Birdland: Farewell, Little Sparrow
The American Tree Sparrow is also known as the winter sparrow. These little birds with rusty caps and plump carriages spend the cold months in the lower states, where they readily visit backyards, especially if there’s a seed feeder. They head north to Canada when the weather warms up, to breed and raise their young. So farewell until next winter, little sparrow. We will miss your sweet high warble. This American Tree Sparrow was photographed at Bluff Lake by Park Hill resident Mark Silverstein.
