Birdland
There are only six species of flamingos in the world, and the American Flamingo, sometimes called the Caribbean Flamingo, is the brightest colored of them all. Flamingos feed on brine shrimp, which give them their dark pink color. Both females and males perform synchronized ritual displays, like the couple in this photograph. They form strong pair bonds, and generally remain monogamous for life. These flamingoes were photographed on the island of Bonaire in the Dutch Antilles, by Park Hill resident Mark Silverstein.
