About That Zucchini Problem…
Greater Park Hill Community, Inc. Free Farm Stand Needs Supplies
By Rebecca Born
Executive Director, GPHC, Inc.
Summer is in full swing! Hopefully everyone’s gardens are going great. Soon we will all run into the age-old “zucchini problem” – which also applies to squash or tomatoes. That’s when all of a sudden something in your garden goes overboard and makes way more produce that you and your family can eat.
We have a solution: our Free Farm Stand is going strong already this year and we NEED that extra produce. Even if you think it is not much, a few items here and there really helps give the stand some zing – a couple of sprigs of oregano, a bunch of dill, some basil or chives, fresh veggies, etc. All will be put to good use here.
You can drop items off for the Free Farm Stand as early as 9 a.m. on Mondays, but we have plenty of fridge space so feel free to drop items off any time Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. here at the Greater Park Hill Community, Inc. office, at 2823 Fairfax St.
And, if you need some fresh veggies or garden goodies, stop by the Free Farm Stand on Mondays and help yourself.
Are you interested in a garden workday? If you’d like to help clean out our greenhouse, rehab tools, and maybe even start some indoor plants, let us know at director@greaterparkhill.org and we’ll set a date.
We are also in need of some perhaps non-typical things for the pantry.
Household:
• If you have any unused (open or not open) household and cleaning supplies they are always in high demand. Paper products like paper towels and toilet paper are also needed. Cat and dog food (can be opened) is also running low.
Hygiene:
• Pads, tampons, and panty liners, all sizes welcome. Many of our clients are young women who would prefer slimmer options.
• Disposable razors
• Deodorant and body wash for men and women.
There are always some edible things we need here at the pantry:
• Hearty soups and stews
• Granola, protein bars, fruit gummies, other healthy snacks
• Fruit canned in light syrup or water –like orange, peach or pear slices
• Saltines
• Sardines, salmon, and tuna

Is the free farm stand still open? If so, what are the hours of operation?
Is there a requirement to go there and choose what is needed?
I read about it in The Greater Park Hill News.
Thank you,
Emma Lou
