If you’ve been around Park Hill long enough, the landmarks of the neighborhood stand out – as recognizable as that beauty mark you see every morning when you look in the mirror.
The original neighborhood, platted in 1887 by Baron Von Winckler, is one of Denver’s first exclusively residential areas (now with a few business blocks thrown in).
Park Hill is significant for its architecture, and its fearless willingness to embrace the quirky. It’s a blend of residential styles ranging from Colonial Revival to Foursquare and Bungalow with some superb Mid-Century Moderns and a warm welcome to smaller, squatter, post World War II starter homes that line much of the northeastern and eastern parts of the ‘hood. The historic business blocks, interspersed among the residential areas, hold their own in character, as do Park Hill’s multiple places of worship.
This page is filled with numbered images of many of the iconic landmarks that old-timers should be able to identify with minimal effort. The first three readers to successfully identify all of them by address or name of the building will win fame and recognition, plus fabulous prizes!
Email your answers to editor@greaterparkhill.org, and include your first and last name and a phone contact. Winners and prizes will be identified in next month’s issue.
Good luck!
