Bugland – Milkweed Borer
The mighty Milkweed Borer, climbing a blade of grass above, usually hangs out on milkweed plants, which are magnets for Monarch Butterflies. Milkweeds aren’t weeds at all, but lovely wildflowers with star-shaped flowers and pods filled with seeds that pop open in the fall. Local gardeners are starting to plant more milkweed, since they are both a food source for the threatened Monarchs, as well as where they lay their eggs. Photos by Mark Silverstein.
