Educators and parents: Are you aware of the endless library resources available for you to use to help your students? You may have used it in the past, to order teacher sets or to apply for an educator library card. We have recently added the following to our Educator Services page, so check it out.
Virtual Classroom Visits
Ideal for all grades —
denverlibrary.org/virtual-visits
Library staff are available to visit your school or class online for customized book shares, library orientations, research instruction, storytimes and more. Choose from a menu of options or talk to us about a custom visit. A variety of activities are available for grades K-5 and 6-12, offered by your local branch librarians or staff from across the library system. We look forward to supporting your students’ social emotional needs and love of reading.
The library also offers outdoor technology access, weather permitting, at several branch locations (including, in Park Hill, at the Pauline Library branch at 5575 E. 33rd Ave.)
For a complete list of available resources, check out denverlibrary.org/blog/technology/stacey/free-and-lowcost-tech-resources-denver. If outdoor access isn’t possible due to weather, you can call your local branch to inquire about utilizing Chromebooks and free wifi, available near all library sites or parking lots. The network name is DPLWireless.
Our Bookmobile makes frequent stops at DPS schools and community centers across the city. Be sure to check out the schedule, which is updated regularly on our website.
We also offer Personalized Reading Lists for all ages, as well as Curbside Bundles for pickup at our branch locations. And be sure to check out our ebook collection on Overdrive (at denver.overdrive.com).
February is Black History Month
As always, we will host our annual Juanita Gray Community Service Awards, on Feb. 6. The Juanita Gray award honors African American men, women and youth who make outstanding contributions to the Denver Metro area and who exemplify the ideals and spirit represented by Gray’s commitment to the community.
The awards presentation will be virtual this year. Check our website, at denverlibrary.org, for information and a list and photo of current recipients. The website also has a Black History Month resources page for kids and teens.
New this year, our Lit Line and Phone A Story to hear select stories about and by African Americans. Lit Line is Read-Alouds for adults, and the phone number is 720-865-2003. Phone A Story is Read-Alouds for kids, and that phone number is 720-865-8500.
