East Area Plan Meeting Sept. 10
The city planning department is holding a second “virtual open house” via Zoom to discuss its most recent draft of the East Area Plan, a controversial proposal that would increase density in four neighborhoods that intersect with East Colfax Avenue. The virtual open house is Thursday, Sept. 10 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
City planners say they have received more than 1,000 comments about the draft East Area Plan, which impacts residents and businesses in the South Park Hill, East Colfax, Montclair and Hale neighborhoods. The newest draft has not been published as of press time, but planners say the document will be available “soon,” and can be reviewed at DenverGov.org/eastplan. Instructions on how to join the Sept. 10 online event will be published on the city website closer to the meeting date.
Participants will be provided an overview of updates to the draft plan, and given the opportunity to ask questions and submit comments. About 150 people dialed in to attend a virtual East Area Plan meeting in May.
Powwow Online Sept. 12
The 31st annual Friendship Powwow – one of the Denver Art Museum’s longest running events – will be held virtually this year. It’s free and everyone is welcome to dial in. The Powwow is Saturday, Sept. 12, beginning at 11 a.m. and will be live-streamed on the museum’s Facebook page and YouTube account. The Powwow is held in collaboration with members of the local Native community and includes categories from tiny tot to teen’s fancy shawl, to women’s jingle, men’s grass and golden age.
City Park Golf Course Reopens
The newly configured City Park Golf Course and clubhouse reopens to the public this month. The course, just west of Park Hill across the street from the Denver Zoo, has been closed since 2017 for a complete redesign to incorporate a stormwater detention area. The new course offers an 18-hole Par 70 with returning 9’s, full-size driving range and a dedicated 4-hole course for the First Tee of Denver program, a nonprofit that teaches youth core values and life skills through the game of golf.
The new clubhouse overlooks downtown and the mountains beyond, and includes a restaurant, a pro shop and various gathering spaces for community groups and private parties up to 200 people. Check out the website at cityofdenvergolf.com/city_park/ for more info and tee times.
