Birdland: Hello, Little House Finch
So many of us are sticking close to home these days, giving us the opportunity to appreciate visits from House Finches, those gregarious birds that frequent city parks and backyards. The finches like to gather at feeders to chomp on seeds and perch high in nearby trees. Male finches are rosy red around the face and upper breast, with streaky brown backs and tails and a red rump. The females are more of a plain grayish brown, with thick blurry streaks. This male House Finch was photographed by Mark Silverstein.
