Turkeys and Hams and Yams For the Table
Help Us Give Thanks For The Bounty
By Rebecca R. Born
Executive Director, GPHC, Inc.
You can help us serve the neighborhood! Whether donations are gifts of time, money, or necessary items they all make a lasting impact here at GPHC.
Please call me at 303-388-0918 or email at director@greaterparkhill.org if you have any questions or would like to help. We are here Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Remember your donations are tax deductible!
Would you like to donate to the Pantry? We are planning on filling up to 100 Thanksgiving baskets this year! We need turkeys and hams as well as everything else that makes a Thanksgiving table full.
For regular pantry operations we need clean plastic grocery bags or re-useable bags, diapers (size 4,5, and 6 needed most), sunscreen, unscented lotion, travel sized toiletries, tooth brushes, tooth paste, granola/protein bars, canned fruit and protein rich canned goods (chili, stew, etc.)
Cleaning out your Garage? Our garden needs shovels, trowels, pitchforks, etc. We also need a 10- or 15-foot folding ladder for our lights and smoke detectors.
Gardening at home? As our season wraps up, if you have extra produce help us supplement our emergency food pantry offering with fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables.
Are you handy? We need some help flashing our greenhouse roof. After the roof is sealed we’ll need to re-install the wall panels. We also have a little plaster work that needs attention.
Do you have three hours to help? We are a member organization at the Food Bank of the Rockies and for every three hours you volunteer there GPHC earns a 20-pound food credit. Go to www.foodbankrockies.org and click on the volunteer tab to get signed up and just be sure to designate Greater Park Hill Community, Inc. as your organization. Think of all the Thanksgiving baskets we can fill with your 20-pound donation!
Lastly, we can always use any gift cards to places such as King Soopers, Safeway, Lowes, etc. Thank you so much for everything all of you do. Check out our Facebook page for even more ways to get involved.
Denver Clean Sweep Swept It Clean
The results of the Oct. 10 Denver Clean Sweep are in – and the numbers are impressive.
The event, at McAuliffe International School, provided on-site, secure paper shredding and electronics recycling. In all, 300 cars came through, 7,000 pounds of paper were shredded and two full truckloads of electronics were recycled.
Denver Clean Sweep – which was sponsored by The Gerwin Group of Kentwood Real Estate – brought in more than $3,000 in donations to McAuliffe International School. That was enough to pay for most of the bike racks needed at the school.
Thanks to all who participated.

in the 3rd or 4 th grade one of the Nuns asked what was one thing you enjoyed about Christmas. My hbnausd innocently said when those Salvation Army people come by singing and bringing gifts. I enjoy it a lot , who else thinks it’s great . The class busted out laughing and someone remarked They only come to your house stupid cause your poor. To this day everytime he see’s a Salvation Army worker at Christmas he retells that story, Respect and Diginity are so important.
