Summer At The Stranahans
Park Hill Family Soldiered Through The Flood, Aftermath
Park Hill resident Joe Stranahan described what happened at his house on June 24 – and how he and his family spent the rest of their summer.
“We live at approximately 17th and Clermont. The basement apartment where my Mom lives was completely flooded. To say the least, it was catastrophic for us, as it was many people in the neighborhood. I was just coming home from work, when my daughter and Mom phoned me frantically about 4 p.m. The basement was flooded, and the floor drain/sewer system had backed up as well – water coming in through the basement front door totaled almost 12 inches of water in the basement unit. We were all in a state of utter shock. The rest of the summer has been spent rebuilding and recovering from this horrible event. My daughter was home for the summer from college and experienced a life lesson. She has been a real trooper. My wife, Joanne has been an immense help as well as my Mom. Tons of files and paperwork were destroyed as well as a lot of personal property. We have all had to ‘soldier’ through this. We had an expensive sump pump installed, as well as the cost of gutting the apartment and rebuilding. Our hearts go out to everyone else in the neighborhood who was affected by this catastrophic weather event.”
