Thanksgiving Giveaway

History and Purpose

In 2013, Greater Park Hill Community, Inc held our first official Thanksgiving Giveaway. Before that time, we informally supported families and for 27 years we ran a Christmas Basket giveaway that ended in 1992 due to a lack of volunteers. Our Thanksgiving Giveaway is an integral part of the services we offer at GPHC and this occasion provides our neighbors with opportunities to volunteer, donate, or receive food, according to their needs and capacity. It is our goal to ensure as many families in need as possible enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner provided by their neighbors and GPHC. In 2017, we distributed over 327 Thanksgiving boxes, which provided approximately 1,200 people with everything needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. That’s 300 turkeys, nine turkey breasts, 161 frozen pies, 200 fresh rolls, 515 pounds of fresh vegetables and about 4,735 cans, boxes, and packets. Collectively, 110 volunteers donated 276 hours in just two weeks. Over 65 individuals and organizations made donations to support our work.

We thank all donors and volunteers from prior years, and especially thank REALGiving for their continued support by providing frozen turkeys to our program.

Volunteering

Every year over a hundred volunteers help us pull together this incredibly successful event. We hope you and yours will join us this year in making Thanksgiving a very special occasion for our community.

To volunteer as an adult or a group of adults, please visit our Thanksgiving Volunteers (adults only) Sign Up Genius.

To volunteer as a family or a group with children, please visit our Thanksgiving Volunteers (families and groups with children) Sign Up Genius. Please note: children must be accompanied by at least one adult for every 5 children.

Special Turkey Drop Off

We know that many of you are busy during this time of year, so for your convenience, we will have a special drop off location for frozen turkeys (and other donations). Swing by before work or on your way to dropping off the kids (or the dogs) and donate a frozen turkey and any other items to make a neighbor’s Thanksgiving extra special!

One of our awesome volunteers will be at Cake Crumbs (2216 Kearney St.) from 7am to 9am, Monday, November 12th through Friday, November 16th.

How to Donate

We simply could not help the many neighbors we do without donations from neighbors and supporters like you! We accept donations of food items, gift cards to supermarkets/grocery stores, and funds.

You can make a financial donation by using this link (managed by PayPal) or by sending a check to GPHC at 2823 Fairfax Street, Denver, CO 80207. Please make sure to note on the memo that your donation is for our Thanksgiving Giveaway. All donations are tax-deductible and we will send donation acknowledgements (including tax receipts) to every donor by mid-December.

Gift cards to King Soopers, Safeway, Sprouts, and Whole Foods can be dropped off at GPHC (2823 Fairfax Street) during our normal office hours, Monday-Thursday 9am-3pm.

If you would like to make an in-kind donation, we keep a running list of which items we need below. Donations can be made at GPHC during our normal office hours (Monday-Thursday 9am-3pm). Donations of non-perishable items can also be made at Park Hill Branch Library (4705 Montview Blvd, Denver, CO 80207) and Cake Crumbs (2216 Kearney St, Denver, CO 80207).
