Thanksgiving Giveaway

History and Purpose

In 2013, Greater Park Hill Community, Inc held our first official Thanksgiving Giveaway. Before that time, we informally supported families and for 27 years we ran a Christmas Basket giveaway that ended in 1992 due to a lack of volunteers. Our Thanksgiving Giveaway is an integral part of the services we offer at GPHC and this occasion provides our neighbors with opportunities to volunteer, donate, or receive food, according to their needs and capacity. It is our goal to ensure as many families in need as possible enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner provided by their neighbors and GPHC. In 2016, we distributed over 250 Thanksgiving boxes, which provided approximately 1,350 people with everything needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We thank all donors and volunteers from prior years, and especially thank REALGiving for their continued support by providing frozen turkeys to our program.

2017: That’s a Wrap!

Thank you for making 2017 our most successful year yet! We could not make the impact we do without each and every volunteer and donor who help out during our Thanksgiving Giveaway. We were able to distribute 327 complete, traditional Thanksgiving meals to 1,200 people in Greater Park Hill this year–a record! That’s 300 turkeys, nine turkey breasts, 161 frozen pies, 200 fresh rolls, 515 pounds of fresh vegetables and about 4,735 cans, boxes, and packets. Collectively, 110 volunteers donated 276 hours in just two weeks. Over 65 individuals and organizations made donations to support our work.
