Park Hill Mail: Letter from Venture Prep Principal Ken Burdette
Hello Fellow Park Hill Neighbors:
As a Park Hill community member and the Principal at Venture Prep High School, I want to reach out and share my excitement regarding the fantastic things were are doing in the Venture Prep community. I take great pride in leading Venture Prep as a premier charter school in the Park Hill community.
Since I moved to Park Hill in 2007, I have heard time and time again that our neighborhood simply does not have adequate options for sending our kids to middle school and high school. Well, I am proud to announce that this is no longer the case.
On the 2012 DPS School Performance Framework, Venture Prep scored a green rating as a high school. This means that the Park Hill neighborhood has a high school that is rigorous, high-achieving, and college-bound. In May 2012, we graduated our first ever Senior Class, and proudly boasted a college-acceptance rate of 100%. Park Hill community; you should celebrate and embrace this accomplishment with us!
In addition to the accomplishments stated above, Venture Prep scholars achieved the highest Math growth for high school in the entire state of Colorado based on 2012 TCAP scores. Venture Prep also ranked in the Top 3 in DPS for overall growth in Reading, Writing, and Math combined.
We may be small compared to other middle schools and high schools, but what we lack in size we supplant in academic growth. Our 430 scholars in grades 6-12 are preparing for college each and every day that they enter the doors at Venture Prep. The parents of our scholars are engaged, and thoroughly support our mission and vision.
To the Park Hill community, I invite you to join us in our mission to educate our children. I will host a neighborhood gathering on Tuesday, October 16th at 6:00 p.m. at 2540 Holly Street for all Park Hill neighbors to come by and see firsthand the great things we are doing at Venture Prep. Please plan to stop by, speak with me directly, and ask any question that you desire.
I look forward to working with you and partnering with you as we continue to promote a college-bound education for all Park Hill students.
Sincerely, Ken Burdette
Venture Prep Principal
