One Agonizing Point Short
East High boys basketball fell one agonizing point short in a thrilling 55-54 Final Four loss to defending champions ThunderRidge at Denver Coliseum on March 11. East, which, at one point was up by eight points during the fourth quarter, had a chance to win. They were down by one with the ball and 20 seconds left in the game. But senior star guard Zy’Quis Davis, who had made a last second shot to beat Rangeview in the round of 16, was unable to repeat the magic, missing a long three-pointer as time expired.
D’Aundre Samuels led the Angels with 18 points. Aguir Dawam and Zy’Quis Davis each scored 12. East finished the season with a 24-3 record. ThunderRidge went on to win the state championship game, beating Fossil Ridge 58-49. Photos by Reid Neureiter
