Conversations On Race
Colorado Humanities will present conversations in Park Hill and Five Points designed to dive deeply into changing the legacy of race in our communities. Two groups will each meet twice to view film clips and have discussion during two Saturdays in October. The series culminates in a potluck at Blair Caldwell African-American Research Library on Saturday, Oct. 28. All conversations are free and open to the public. The Park Hill group will meet with Hillary Potter, Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Potter’s research focuses on the critical analysis of the intersections of race, gender, and class as they relate to crime and violence. She will lead conversations at the Park Hill Library, 4705 Montview Blvd., on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The second meeting is at the Ford-Warren Library, 2825 High St. on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The Five Points group will meet on Saturday, Oct. 14 and 21, at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, 2401 Welton St., from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The Park Hill and Five Points groups will join for a potluck on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, 2401 Welton St.. Compost With The Masters
On Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. join two Denver Urban Gardens master composters who will give a free demonstration and talk about composting at Greater Park Hill Community, 2823 Fairfax St. Learn more about composting at your home and come with questions about your compost to troubleshoot together.
Garden For The Winter
On Tuesday, Oct. 24, join Greater Park Hill Community for a free workshop on winterizing your garden to replace nutrients in your soil for a more fruitful garden next year! The Garden in A Box Workshop: Winterizing Your Garden workshop includes seeds, instructions, and a giveaway. The workshop is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the GPHC office at 2823 Fairfax St.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Road Closures
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon runs Thursday, Oct., 12 to Sunday, Oct. 15, and while the event is not happening in Park Hill please be aware that the various road closures during those four days may impact your commute downtown. City Park Golf Course Redesign
The City and County of Denver is hosting two identical community meetings to share plans for the redesign of City Park Golf Course and introduce the community to the design-build team of Saunders Construction, iConGolf Studio with Hale Irwin Golf Design, and clubhouse architect Johnson Nathan Strohe. The meetings are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Both meetings are at the City Park Golf Course Clubhouse, 2500 York St. and are free and open to the public. The project team will share the design for City Park Golf Course. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the project team, get questions answered and review informational displays. City Park Golf Course will close in November and reopen in 2019. The redesign of the course is part of the Platte to Park Hill stormwater project.
