Bugland: October Surprise
Halloween Pennants have orange-yellow tinted wings with black bands – Halloween colors. The pennants are a type of dragonfly, but are sometimes mistaken as butterflies. They are often found clinging onto an exposed twig, swinging back and forth in the breeze like little pennants – hence the second part of their name. Unlike other dragonflies, they don’t seem to mind flying in the rain and through stiff breezes. This Halloween Pennant was photographed in Westerly Creek, just east of Park Hill, by Mark Silverstein.
