Bugland: Enchanting and Ferocious
Not only are they cute, Praying Mantises are your buddies in the garden. Growing over three inches tall, they are ferocious predators that feed on many of the pest insects that want to destroy vegetables and flowers. For the winter, adult Praying Mantises lay a mass of eggs on the side of a building or another solid surface. They cover the eggs in a foamy material that makes the whole bundle look like a packing peanut. In the spring, baby Praying Mantises emerge, and voila! You have natural and free insect control for your garden. Photo by Mark Silverstein
