Gearing Up For Springtime
Thanks For Everything, Park Hill!
By Amelia Eckles
Admin. Asst., GPHC
Winter here at Greater Park Hill Community, Inc. means slowing down and taking the time we have to plan for the year ahead.
While our food programs run year-round, most of our events take place during the growing season, which will be here before we know it.
In preparation for springtime, we’ll be hosting a Seed-Bomb Making Workshop at our office (2823 Fairfax St.) on March 14 at 6 p.m. Come on over, and help put together seed packets designed to help spread pollinators all over the neighborhood. If you’re unable to make it, April is Earth Month and we have a lot more in store, so stay tuned.
On behalf of the students and families who receive food from the Weekend Food Program at the Boys and Girls Club, Park Hill Elementary and Roots Elementary, thank you for your continued support.
By donating to this program you help ensure that schoolchildren in the community have nutritionally appropriate food each weekend for the duration of the school year. Whether you give of your time, money, or through donations of food, you are a vital part of making this program a success.
Thank you also to all who donate to our Food Pantry – whether you and your family, business, or church have been giving regularly for years, or if you just made your first donation – it all makes a direct impact on folks living in our community. And big thanks also to those who spend hours each week sorting donations, greeting clients, and helping them navigate our client-choice food pantry.
In order to continue to provide items that we know clients need and will use, each month we ask for specific donations. This month we are in need of peanut butter, canned meat (tuna, salmon, chicken, etc), canned fruit, rice, coffee, tea, baby wipes, and diapers (sizes newborn, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 needed).
The Weekend Food Program has specific needs as well. For the month of March we would benefit from donations of individually packaged snack foods like granola bars (without nuts, preferably), fruit snacks, cookies, crackers, and cheese crackers; 15 oz. cans of ravioli, beef stew, spaghetti, etc.; pasta and rice sides (in soft packaging, preferably), individual packets of oatmeal, juice boxes, and fruit cups.
If you’d like to make a donation to either of our food programs, we gratefully accept them at our office during our office hours. We are at 2823 Fairfax St. and are open Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Our friends at Cake Crumbs (23rd and Kearney) and the Park Hill Branch Library (Montview and Dexter) also accept donations during their open hours.
Cash donations are always appreciated. You can donate on our website, greaterparkhill.org, or give us a call at 303-388-0918.
We also welcome you to drop by with questions or concerns during our office hours. We look forward to hearing from you!
