Future Investigators At Work At Ashley
Special to the GPHN
The Scholars Unlimited afterschool program at Denver’s Ashley Elementary School hosted a STEM Night on Feb. 18. The event spotlighted the importance of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and also introduced many parents to fun and educational related activities they can do with their children at home.
More than 130 attended the two-hour long event. “STEM provides our students with hands-on activities that inspire our students to investigate the world around them,” said Kathleen King, Scholars Unlimited president, when kicking off the event. “Without the restrictions of the formal school day, afterschool and summer programming provide a very effective avenue for STEM projects.”
Scholars Unlimited partnered with Denver Parks and Recreation Department, Ashley Elementary School, Surrey Satellite US, Teacher’s Professional Resource, the Afterschool Alliance, and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt for the event.
The event was organized by Scholars Unlimited site coordinator, Patrick Wilhelm, who is a 2015-2016 Afterschool Ambassador, selected last summer by the Afterschool Alliance as one of 15 ambassadors from around the nation.
